Head Start is a federally funded child development program that provides comprehensive early intervention services for pre-school children and their families. Head Start operates nationwide while encouraging local communities to design their programs based on the strength and needs of each community.

BCCCRC’s Head Start Child Care Collaboration came from a vision to marry full day child care and Head Start assets to provide Baltimore City families with quality child care and the comprehensive family services Head Start offers in the areas of health, nutrition, social services, disabilities and parent involvement.

Initiated in 1993, the partnership is designed to bring together the best each program has to offer in order to further the early childhood education of children and to prepare them for kindergarten. BCCCRC currently works in partnership with both child care centers and family child care providers throughout Baltimore City to provide services to children. Child care partners in the collaboration include government agencies, private-non-profits organizations and the faith community. Training in developmentally appropriate early childhood education for Head Start and child care staff at all levels is an integral component of the partnership and helps to improve the quality of care given to the centers’ children.

BCCCRC Head Start and the child care partners in the collaboration are committed to working together for the well-being of all children, families, staff and communities within this changing world.
